The Video Data Inserter

Notice:

Use of this product for unauthorized duplication of copyrighted material from DVD, VHS or other media is prohibited under federal copyright laws, unless the duplication qualifies as a fair use under the copyright laws.

The K2RF Video Data Interface is a multi-purpose video product.  It was designed to provide very special applications to users of Video based Multimedia and Security products.  It enables you to digitally encode data into any Video source or recording.  This allows digital data and commands to be stored on video tape and then played back fully synchronized with the video images on the recorded media. As such, it is useful in such applications as: Home Theater, Commercial Theater, Sales Presentations, Security/Surveillance, and Amateur Television.

This product may also be used in a standalone mode (not utilizing the digital interface) to stabilize and improve the quality of marginal NTSC Video signals. The special characteristics of the VDI-100 make it an idea companion in video distribution systems where the video quality has been affected by impedance changes or long coaxial cable runs. Video signals are cleaned up dramatically and it can also be used to stabilize and improve frequency response of video signals when used with video capture cards on PC's and other video input devices.

Typical Applications

  • Take your old family VHS video tapes and transfer them to DVD through the VDI-100.  Video quality will be significantly improved by removing most noise and sync problems and restoring lack-luster color.

  • Use the VDI-100 to improve the signal level and quality of any poor quality video signal.

  • Corrects video shearing, tearing, and removes video bars.

  • Perfect for Video Distribution applications.

  • Reprocess and improve Video from your PC after you have created AVI's, MPEGs, or anything that outputs a composite video signal.

  • Insert digital signals from alarms and sensors to be accurately "real-time" synchronized frame by frame with Video signals.  Perfect for surveillance and security applications.

  • When used for data insertion, the VDI-100 is excellent for use in supporting evidence in legal matters or law enforcement.

NOTE: Cables for interconnections are not provided due to the diverse number of possible installation needs. For both the RCA video cables and a standard digital serial interface cable, we recommend you visit Radio Shack or similar electronics supplier to find the cables that best suite you installation needs.

Installing and using the VDI-100 is simple:

1.   Attach the VDI-100 RCA connector on the rear panel marked "Video In" to your video "Video output" source.

2.   Attach the VDI -100 RCA connector on the rear panel marked "Video Out" to your video destination/target "Video input" signal.

3.   For use as a data inserter, attach your serial data interface to the DB-9 connector on the rear of the VDI-100 to your digital data source. You will need to build a digital translator to feed the DB-9.  This is used specific to your application. A simple schematic and application note will be published shortly.  Note: you do not need this if your just using the VDI-100 as a video corrector and quality improver stabilizer.

4.   Attach the AC power wall adapter to the coaxial connector on the rear panel. Then, plug the adapter into the wall (110volts AC only).

5.    Verify the LED on the rear panel is lit.  It is ready to use.
